Bloom Baby Stockport West

Sensory & development classes  ·  Gatley / Cheadle Heath / Alderley Edge

Bloom runs award-winning sensory and baby development classes in two age groups: Caterpillar Club for babies aged 0 to 6 months and Busy Bees for 6 to 15 months. Bloom says Caterpillar Club includes soothing music, sensory play and baby massage, while Busy Bees is a livelier class with music, instruments and movement. The Stockport West classes are run by Holly, a former Stockport primary school teacher and mum.

In Cheadle Heath: Wednesday mornings at Rose Walker Community Centre (SK3 0JA).
In Gatley: Thursday mornings at Bethany Church (SK8 4NQ).
Bloom Stockport West also runs classes in Alderley Edge.

Classes are booked by the term on Bloom's website. When we checked in early October 2026, a mid-term block worked out at £8.75 a session, and some Caterpillar Club slots in Cheadle Heath were full with a waiting list, so it's worth booking early.

Free baby and toddler groups: libraries and Family Hubs

You don't have to pay for a class to get out of the house with a baby. Stockport Libraries run a free weekly Storytime in every library, with stories, rhymes and songs for pre-school children and their parents or carers. It's a relaxed way to meet other local parents.

Cheadle Library

23 Ashfield Road, Cheadle, SK8 1BB. Storytime runs on Thursdays at 2pm (2pm to 2:30pm), when we checked in October 2026. The library has baby change facilities and is a One Stockport Family Hub.

Heald Green Library

Finney Lane, Heald Green, SK8 3JB. Storytime runs on Saturdays at 11am (11am to 11:30am), when we checked in October 2026 — useful if weekday mornings are hard. The library has baby change facilities and is also a Family Hub.

Cheadle Hulme Library

Just next door to Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme Library runs Storytime on Fridays at 2pm, when we checked in October 2026. Handy if you're already in Cheadle Hulme for TinyTalk or shopping.

These libraries are One Stockport Family Hubs. Family Hubs bring together services for families from pregnancy onwards, including infant feeding, children's health and development, play sessions, parenting support and mental health and wellbeing. You can ask library staff during staffed hours, or use the Family Hubs pages on the Stockport Council website to get in touch.

For a wider list of local groups for under-5s, search the council's Stockport Live Well directory (pregnancy to 5).

Check before you go. Library sessions can be cancelled or moved, especially around school holidays. The Stockport Libraries Storytime page lists every library's day and time.

Health visitors, feeding and family support

Classes are lovely, but they aren't where you go for health advice. In Stockport, these are the people to contact.

Your health visiting team

In Stockport, health visitors work in Start Well teams. Your health visitor will be in touch before your baby is born, and may see you at home, in a health centre or clinic, at a Start Well hub or at your GP surgery. For advice on feeding, sleep, development, minor illnesses or booking a child health clinic, call the Health Visiting and School Nursing advice line on 0161 835 6789 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 4:30pm, not bank holidays).

Feeding support

The Stockport Infant Feeding team is on 07767 870 506 for questions about breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Stockport Council says the team can also tell you about its breastfeeding support sessions, workshops and clinics. The National Breastfeeding Helpline is 0300 100 0212.

If you'd like private one-to-one help at home, two IBCLC lactation consultants listed on Little Village cover Greater Manchester: Jackie Hall offers home visits across Greater Manchester and parts of Lancashire, as well as online consultations, and Shel Banks, who specialises in unsettled babies, faltering growth and formula feeding, lists home visits and remote consultations. Our guide to breastfeeding support in South Manchester has more detail.

Your own recovery

If you're dealing with leaking, a tummy gap or pelvic pain after birth, Stockport NHS Foundation Trust runs pelvic health physio. Ask your midwife, GP or health visitor to refer you. Our guide to postnatal physio in South Manchester explains the NHS routes and what a private "Mummy MOT" involves.

If you're feeling persistently low or anxious, or struggling to cope, talk to your health visitor, midwife or GP. The NHS says you don't have to put on a brave face, and help is available.

Choosing a class in Cheadle or Heald Green

Match the class to your baby's age. Bloom splits its classes at 6 months for a reason: a newborn and a crawling ten-month-old need different things. Check the age range before you book.

Think about the day as well as the place. Cheadle Heath (Wednesday), Gatley (Thursday) and Cheadle Hulme (Monday) are close enough that many parents mix venues. If one day doesn't work, another nearby session might.

Plan the journey. Community centres and church halls don't always have much parking or space for prams. Ask the provider before your first session.

Mix paid and free. A weekly class plus a free Storytime is a good way to build a routine without a big bill, and you'll start recognising the same local faces.
